No ta all! We have done the difficult part for you 🙂
We have worked very hard over the years to make the experience a very pleasant one. Even the instructions that are provided with the kit are informative, include pictures, eye catching and give additional information to make the kit experience a very exciting one for kids and adults alike.
Mushroom kits are to be located indoors, away from strong drafts and direct sunshine. Yet still, they do need a little bit of indirect light, but just a little not as much as a plant would need.
In winter, practically all the house can be used to grow kits with the exception of washrooms that would get very warm on a nice day.
In summer, the cooler the spot the better so ideally floors that are not underlying the roof, garages, basements or beneath staircases. Do not place directly under airconditioners.
Kits need fresh air so please do not enclose them and allow them fresh air circulation.
Ideally keep away from dogs but kitties mean mushrooms no harm.
Kits can be grown outdoors but it is a bit more difficult. The site has to be completely sheltered from wind and no direct sun. In addition avoid slugs as they tend to be very fond of mushrooms!
Each kit is supplied with specific instructions for the particular variety plus contact for customer support. It is best that you follow the instructions.
However, in general, the kit needs to be located indoor out of direct sun and out of drafts in a well ventilated area. It has to be initiated by letting it drop from 4 inches high and than the bag needs to be cut according to the provided instructions.
The kit then has to be misted with ordinary tap water a couple of times a day (if you skip a day here and there it will not make a difference).
We know that large dogs sometimes chew on them or eat their fruit, but since they do not contain toxic materials or chemicals, they are not harmful. Smaller dogs are less likely to damage the kits. We have no reports of cats and birds damaging the kits either. Unfortunately we have no information about more exotic species such as rodents or other animals.
Kits (or parts of kits) are sometimes grown in terrariums for decoration so reptiles and amphibians seen to tolerate them well.
It is important to understand that you are ordering a living organism and thus is cannot be produced to stock in large amounts. This means that most orders are produced almost on request!
Place your order online by checking out through the website. If the items ordered are from stock, than the delivery should not take long but it depends on the location and on the other orders’ localities and volumes. On the other hand, this ensures freshness and viability of the product.

Well, now that is the time to enjoy the fruits of your labor, there is no one right way to do it.
We enjoy the taste of the mushroom so we chop them, toss them into a non-stick pan with a couple of spoonfuls of water and cook them uncovered on medium heat stirring frequently until the water added at the beginning and the water they give out is changed into a thick sauce. Salt & pepper to taste and enjoy.
Online your will find a million ways to cook your mushrooms and everyone prefers his own. You can also dehydrate or pickle them.
One thing is sure. If you decide to cook them always eat your mushrooms nice and warm otherwise the taste will be far less satisfying!
Sustainability is in the hear of our products and we try to preach sustainability in whatever we do.
To start with, our wood is sourced either from sustainably managed forests (FSC certified) or else is the by-product of the timber industry. Our waste is separated before it is disposed of and our spent kits are either composted or used as mulch. If our clients cannot do either, MycoMalta collects back used kits on subsequent deliveries or else the spent kits can be disposed of in the organic bin.
Despite not being so pretty, we prefer to dress our products less to reduce the use of disposable packaging and where packaging is needed, plastic is avoided whenever possible.
We capture, collect and use rainwater and try to maintain the use of energy at minimum by only growing seasonal varieties of mushrooms. No artificial chemicals are used in the production of mushroom kits.
We try to be sustainable in transportation also. Local products and materials are given preference over imported ones whenever available and deliveries are mostly made during off-peak times.
